The Ethereum Foundation's treasury is valued at $970.2 million, as revealed in a recently published report. This amount comprises $788.7 million in cryptocurrency and $181.5 million in non-digital asset investments.
Ethereum's Crypto Holdings
A significant portion, 99.45%, of the foundation's crypto assets is held in ETH, which accounts for 0.26% of the total ether supply as of the report date. By prioritizing ETH within its treasury, the Ethereum Foundation reaffirms its long-term commitment to the potential of the Ethereum blockchain.
Total Treasuries in the Ethereum Ecosystem
The primary goal of the Ethereum Foundation's treasury is to fund essential public goods within the Ethereum ecosystem over the long term. The foundation employs a treasury management strategy designed to protect its resources, even during extended market downturns.
This strategy includes periodically liquidating ETH to build financial reserves and increasing fiat savings during bullish market conditions to support expenditures in bearish phases. As of 2024, the Ethereum ecosystem boasts a total of $22.2 billion in secured treasuries held by various foundations, organizations, and DAOs.
While the Ethereum Foundation manages 4.4% of this total at $970 million, Optimism leads with 15.8% at $3.5 billion, followed by Uniswap with 14% at $3.1 billion. Other notable holders include Mantle (11.3%), Arbitrum (8.6%), and Gnosis (8.1%).
Funding Contributions from the Ethereum Foundation
In terms of funding distribution, the Ethereum ecosystem saw a total deployment of $457 million during the 2022-2023 period, with the Ethereum Foundation contributing 48.3%, amounting to $240.3 million. Sky, previously known as MakerDAO, followed with a contribution of 15.3% or $76 million, while Optimism provided 10.4% or $51.8 million.
Additional contributors include Gitcoin (4.2%), Decentraland (2.8%), and Aragon (2.4%). Notably, Uniswap contributed $10.7 million, while Starknet, MetaMask, and Protocol Guild added $9.1 million, $4.8 million, and $4.8 million, respectively. The remaining 10.7% was provided by other organizations within the ecosystem.
